Day 1: Arrival

Altitude: 2,320m | Drive: 1.5 hours

  • Arrival at Paro airport
  • Meet your guide who will be holding a placard
  • Receive a khadhar – a traditional scarf of warm welcome
  • Receive a bouquet – Our way of welcoming our guests
  • Drive to Thimphu
  • Visit Buddha Dordenma statue – the largest buddha statue in the world 
  • Explore the Centenary farmers 
  • Stroll around Norzin Lam Street for handicrafts and local snacks
  • Overnight in Thimphu

Day 2: Thimphu to Gasa

Altitude: 2,850m | Drive: 5–6 hours

  • Depart early for Gasa, passing through lush forests and winding mountain roads.
  • Visit Gasa Dzong, a fortress overlooking the valley.
  • Relax in the Gasa hot springs, a natural retreat for weary travelers.
  • Overnight in Gasa (camping or homestay).

Day 3: Gasa to Laya (Trek / Horse Ride)

Altitude: 3,800m | Trek: 7–8 hours (alternative: horse ride)

  • Trek through pristine alpine landscapes, crossing streams and yak pastures.
  • Enter Laya, home to the Layap people, known for their unique dress and traditions.
  • Receive a traditional Layap welcome with butter tea and local hospitality.
  • Overnight in Laya (camping or homestay).

Day 4: Royal Highland Festival – Day 1

  • Witness the grand opening ceremony with traditional dances and mask performances.
  • Experience yak and horse races, showcasing the nomadic lifestyle.
  • Explore exhibitions of yak dairy products, medicinal herbs, and textiles.
  • Engage with highland communities and learn about their traditions.
  • Overnight in Laya (camping or homestay).

Day 5: Royal Highland Festival – Day 2 & Return to Gasa

  • Enjoy the second day of the festival, featuring archery, traditional games, and cultural performances.
  • Begin the trek back to Gasa, retracing the scenic trail.
  • Overnight in Gasa (camping or homestay).

Day 6: Gasa to Thimphu

Drive: 5–6 hours

  • Depart for Thimphu, with stops for photography and short hikes.
  • Visit the Tashichho Dzong, the seat of Bhutan’s government and clergy.
  • Free time for last-minute shopping or exploring Thimphu’s nightlife.
  • Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 7: Thimphu to Paro – Departure

Drive: 1.5 hours

  • Transfer to Paro International Airport for departure.
